During the 1964 school year, fire overcame Gustavus Adolphus Hall, home to freshman students and a campus center. Students were recruited to help control the fire, as there were not enough firefighters. In fear that the fire would spread to the neighboring buildings (Bogar Hall and Selinsgrove Hall), filing cabinets containing student records were removed from the buildings. Luckily the fire did not spread to other buildings, however Gustavus Aldolphus Hall was destroyed.
